The Mission Mob doesn’t just concentrate on greater Akron. The Youth at Holy Trinity travel to various cities in the US to help provide service in underserved neighborhoods. As part of Youth Works, our youth helped clean up a downtown neighborhood in Detroit. They helped clean up and hosted a cookout in south Chicago. The make connections and help where help is needed.
The youth and adult leaders partnered with local organizations to meet ongoing needs in the South Chicago community. During the week, youth served all or part of their time at a food pantry, clothing distribution center, soup kitchen, children’s program or at elderly care facilities. Seven youth and four adults left Akron, traveled to the South Side of Chicago and came back forever changed. They worked, served, worshipped and spread the good news of Jesus Christ to the neighborhoods and organizations they visited. They visited Pacific Garden, a homeless shelter, and prepared the sleeping rooms and helped serve nearly 900 guests at their annual July 4th Outdoor Picnic. The group worked at the Hermitage Community Garden alongside several local residents. The group also packed 816 food kits at the local Catholic Charities warehouse – to be distributed to elderly folks in need in the Chicago area.
